I took my 6 year old daughter for her first show at the Ahmanson to see Cinderella. I had never seen the play before so it was a first for us both and it was a magical experience! The cast was great (and it was so fun to watch Fran Drescher as the wicked stepmother). The show was visually beautiful, the music and songs were wonderful, and it was also funny, which I always appreciate (loved the Fairy God-Mother!). My daughter was wowed by the fairy-tale sets, amazing costume transformations, ball gowns, and tiaras. She loved the moving animals, dancing and the songs she recognized from her friends’ musical theater class. As a mom, I appreciated the empowering messages throughout the play encouraging “you can an be anything”, “everything is possible”, and “fight for what you believe’. For me personally the theme of fighting against all odds for something you want was the right message at just the right time, “if you have a dream the shortly thereafter you will have to fight for it”.
The play is about 2 hours with an intermission after the first hour. Perfect time to hit the candy bar on the main level. Cinderella runs until April 26 so plan a special mother/daughter date before it ends!
