I adore this little treasure on 2nd Street in Santa Monica. Perfectly situated near Baby Group, First Presbyterian Preschool and the newly opened Tender Greens, UCLA Family Commons is a terrific resource! What is it? It's a "wellness center that helps you bring healthier routines into your family's daily life."
For parents they offer Family Coaching, Parenting Seminars and Mommy and Me classes. For kids they offer Yoga, Martial Arts, Music & Art, and Mindfulness classes. Class prices are reasonable ($15 drop in for kids yoga). On the weekends they offer an afternoon drop-off program for kids ages 5-12 also $15 an hour.
During Spring Break and Summer Vacation they offer Girls Get Real (ages 9 – 12) and Boys Only (ages 7 – 12) camps. Details and information online. www.uclacommons.com
There is a Family Public Square Lecture Series event taking place on December 7 entitled "Thinking and Learning Skills for the 21st Century" by Dr. Maria Chesley Fisk. The talk encompasses the latest research on intelligence and how children think supports them in developing their multiple intelligences – analytical, creative, social, emotional and practical.
