CHILL at the Queen Mary in Long beach is seriously cool! There’s an outdoor skating rink where you can rent skates and these really fun orange seal / dolphin creatures your kids can ride on. But before you skate, get in line for the Ice Kingdom in the dome. Its an unbelievable feat of ice sculptures, ice slides and more. Bundle up well and be grateful for the blue heavy duty snow coats they give to everyone as the get closer to the entrance. Its freezing inside! Ice skating and a little hot cocoa will be a welcome treat after the ice experience inside the giant dome. Tickets are available online. Oh – and use that pass you get to tour the Queen Mary while you are there. Make sure to stop in the dining room and check out the map on the wall that documented their ocean voyage, the captain’s quarters are really fun to check out or the radio room where they still host amateur radio shows today.
Disney on Ice: Dare to Dream is in Anaheim this weekend and Longbeach Jan 3 – 6. Get tickets soon!
Outdoor Ice Rinks In addition to the ice rink at the Queen Mary there are several others taking place around LA this holiday season. If you live on the West side take your kids down to Ice at Santa Monica for a little outdoor skating fun! Joy to the Hills…there’s now an outdoor rink in Beverly Hills. You thought wandering Rodeo Drive and looking at all the Christmas lights and chandeliers was fun? Now you can skate too! The rink, located at North Crescent and Santa Monica, is open daily starting at noon. Check tickets sales online for available times.
Downtown there’s no better place to celebrate good cheer than LA Live with their gorgeous and gigantic Christmas tree, outdoor rink and plenty of places to dine. This is a great place to spend a late afternoon and watch the lights come on over a warm and tasty dinner. And leave it to the folks in the Valley to use “the only place to get a tan and skate” in their online description….yes folks for the 4th year in a row your can skate at Woodland Hills Ice near the Westfield Promenade.
Indoor Ice Rinks Love to skate? There’s nothing like skating in the Los Angeles Kings practice rink. And during the holidays there’s all kinds of fun festivities to enjoy at the Toyota Sports Center Ice Rink. Skate around the Stanley Cup Christmas Tree during public skate hours! Culver City Ice Rink has been a much loved and much used facility for decades in LA. Not as big or glitzy as the newer ones, but a great place to spend some time gliding on the ice. Look for some of the regulars who keep it lively out there, think Venice Boardwalk on ice. Housed at the Pasadena Convention Center, the Pasadena Ice Rink is a regulation size rink. Check their schedule for Public Skate times.
Enjoy the Lights We mentioned above that a stroll along Rodeo is sure to get you in the holiday mood with lots of lights and even fancy chandeliers. Try to make it down to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and peek up at the intersection of Wilshire and Beverly Dr where Santa and his reindeer have flown overhead for many years. Or hit The Grove after dark for a magical spectacle of Christmas lighting. This is a perfect pedestrian friendly place to stroll along, listen to Christmas music and enjoy the twinkling decor.
