Thyme Cafe and Market in Santa Monica on Ocean Park Drive serves breakfast and lunch from their daily chalkboard menu. The salads are super healthy and tasty and I can’t say enough about the chicken, fig, red onion and brie panini I am enjoying while writing this post. A blend of magical flavors. So delicious! Thyme has a beautiful bakery counter featuring cakes and cookies, a few items you can grab and go from their cooler and they also do catering! Not sure what to serve for Thanksgiving or Hannukah? You can view their menu on their website. You can order ahead for pick-up. I gotta share a few of the menu items because they are so unusual….Rosemary Roasted Cashews, Kale & Brussel Sprouts Salad with Cranberries, Fennel, Pecorino, Pine Nuts & Lemon Shallot Vinaigrette, Haricot Vert with Hazelnuts & Orange Zest and Crab Cakes with Harissa Aioli (my husband would love those!). If you’re looking for gourmet take-out this is top of our list.
K Bakery in Pacific Palisades is a tiny treasure tucked in an unsuspecting corner of a strip of stores on Sunset. Nestled between a local taco joint and a dry cleaners, K Bakery has a non-stop flow of traffic from Malibu and Pacific Palisades moms stopping in to to pick up owner Kim’s delicious, homemade soups, pre-order a family meal from the weekly plan or gran a piece of carrot cake, pumpkin spice bread or cookies. Items change every day so you never know what new and interesting taste or flavor you will be introduced to. The last time I was in I picked up her amazing Butternut Squash and Sage soup and the Almond Pop Tart. Words cannot describe the gooey heaven that exists in the center of that pop tart. K Bakery also provides catering services, holiday meals and delivery! Thank you Kim for leaving your office days behind and pursuing your dream of owning a bakery. All us locals are grateful!
Roast Market & Deli in Brentwood and Pacific Palisades is my go-to place for healthy family meals. Organic, grass fed, locally farmed and eco friendly, roast delivers exactly what you expect – great food roasted to perfection. This is gourmet take-out with a conscious. From their roasted vegetables, fresh salads and terrific side dishes to mouthwatering entrees, their food never disappoints. Be sure to order the corned beef. It comes with a sharp and tangy horseradish sauce. Or for family night order my favorites, the brisket (cooked tip it falls apart on your plate) and the garlic and thyme chicken breast. They also have these lovely little roast chickens and chicken tenders (a healthy, kid-friendly alternative). You can order an entire meal ahead of time and let them know when you be by to pick it up – and they will run it out to your car – even in rush hour on a Friday. Thank you Roast for making Shabbat dinner so much easier!
Clementine has been serving up egg salad sandwiches and tasty salads for many years in Beverly Hills. You can order ahead of time too. There’s always a new seasonal item I haven’t tried before. In addition to the made-to-order sandwiches and salads, they carry some prepared items in their display cooler. And their bakery items are to die for. The Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting is my favorite. I also love their Molasses Cookies. But the staple we never leave Clementine’s without is the Arnold Palmer made with Limeade. Be sure to check their website regularly for new menu items and catering options as well.
Joan’s on Third now has three locations – on 3rd Street not far from the Beverly Center, on Ocean in Santa Monica and in Studio City. And they have a selection of gourmet cheeses that would make any cheese lover an instants Joan’s fan. You can call ahead to pick up, grab something on the go or call them about their catering services. They also offer full service event planning.
